Post 4: Media language constructing representation

notes

  • both host and guest are dressed casually, casual banter, casual tone connotes it being akin to a regular conversation between friends. presents the show as a calm and relaxing environment.
  • used as a distraction from the stresses of a regular day.
  • diegetic sound of  the radios jingle and the electric, energetic yet soft background music.
  • Purple High key lighting behind Nick and Justin- makes it look like the interview is being conducted in a nightclub. Nightclubs synonymous with the young adult demographic. the background music during the interview adds to this idea, with it being electric and energetic.
In this Clip with Nick Grimshaw And Justin Bieber, both of them are presented as very casual, despite their status as 'celebrities'. Both Nick and Justin are dressed casually and have casual banter with each other which makes the tone of the conversation (albeit it being a interview) very casual. This conversation is akin to a regular conversation between friends rather than an interview with the host and the guest. This, as a result, presents the show with a calm and relaxing environment to the audience which allows the audience to use the show as a distraction from the stresses of a regular day.

Throughout the interview the diegetic sound of the show's jingle and the background music throughout the interview segment can be heard throughout the clip. With the music being that of the electric genre, with it connoting the feeling of being energetic and enthusiastic. it makes it seem like to the audience that this interview is being conducted in a nightclub, and since the target audience (young adults) are the type to most likely go to nightclubs, they would associate this feeling with good times and being free of stress, representing the show that of the sort to provide quality entertainment.

Website Analysis

  • Text kept to a minimum
  • background simple, yet uses vibrant colours in contrast to the darker colours used in the rest of the website- gives off nightclub feel- nightclubs synonymous with teenagers/young adults
  • easy to navigate- the recent recording  is placed in the centre of the website with a picture of the host. Previous and upcoming podcasts are advertised on the right of the site.

on the BBC Radio One website the text is kept, including descriptions/synopses. This is due to the fact that, since this is a radio show website, visitors will only use it primarily for the audio content available, meaning they'll most likely be surfing the internet on other tabs, making any abundance of text on the website useless. The backdrop of the website is very simple in design, consisting of shapes such as rectangles and a circle, which it referencing the BBC Radio One logo. Furthermore the colours are vibrant consisting of purple, green and blue.

Additionally, the website is easy to navigate, with the most recent recording of the show being easy to find since its in the centre as the main topic, and the previous show and the next show (only given the next guests on the show) are seen to the right of the screen. This is so people can easily access the show they want and get on with activities they want or need to do with his in the background.
