Radio Voices

Through out these tests, my voice is loud enough to be heard through the microphone and not muffled, and from the standing test, it is clear to me that standing and speaking into the microphone is better than sitting as my voice is able to be projected more. Two common themes that came up through out all my tests, as well as being bought up by feedback from peers was that, firstly; I talked too fast and would need to slow my voice down so I could pronounce words properly. And secondly; Say "listening to" on the actual recording instead of "watching".

  • With the website backdrops, while I kept the design the same structurally, I switched around the black and white colours, which with backdrops such as 1 and 3, give off a 'day mode' and 'night mode' vibe. However, from the feedback received, I was recommended to drop the first backdrop as you couldn't really make out the 'F'  immediately( for 'Friday Anthem') along side the fully white background. Instead, my peers suggested I go for either backdrop 2 or 3, due to the black, whether it be the full-black background or just the back background with the white circle, made the 'F' pop out more and make it more recognisable. In the end, I decided to go with backdrop 3 as, when putting these backdrops along with the website, the backdrops with white made most of the text (which it dominantly white) unreadable. Additionally, I initially intended to do a 'day mode' and 'night mode' for my website as most websites in this day and age, more specifically social media websites/ forums such as Twitter and Reddit provide this option on their websites (on computers and phones), but decided against it for two reasons. Firstly, as said before, on backdrops 1,2 and 4 the white colour in the backdrops would make the white text on the website invisible, and secondly; the vast majority of content on radio websites are purely audio content, so, having a day and night mode would be rendered obsolete as people wouldn't be on the websites tab of they're on a computer as they would be surfing other websites and people who are listening to the radio on their phones would either have it in their pockets or using other apps with he radio as background noise.

My Moodboard

Learning Objectives:

  • K: the advantages and disadvantages of using a mood board to inspire content of new media product.
  • U: how different types of images and fonts can affect the way audiences consume media texts.
  • BAT: produce a mood board that illustrates your initial ideas for your media product.
  • CO: Use media terminology throughout.

The briefing I chose was  briefing 2. In this briefing my task is to create an opening sequence of a pilot for a new music magazine radio show for BBC Radio 1. I must also produce a website for the show which enables fan interaction.

The minimum requirements for my task include:

  • One three minute opening sequence
  • One homepage and one linked page (website)
  • A clear sense of branding across the two elements of cross-media production
  • editing of footage and sound
  • a soundtrack
  • 2 characters representing two different social groups
  • two original images

In the briefing, my target audience is a culturally sophisticated 16-25 class AB Demographic.
